Second Weekly Worship
This May, we will be offering a second opportunity for worship each week.
On Wednesdays, at 6:30 PM we will be having mid-week worship. Similar to our Lenten services, this service will be briefer and less formal than Sunday morning worship. It will last about half an hour, feature a shortened liturgy, and have fewer songs to sing.
This service is for when you have to work on Sunday, or when you know you'll be gone on the weekend.
Or perhaps you are just looking for a mid week “pick me up”!
It's easy to let worship slide, to get out of the habit. One weekend passes and then another, and pretty soon, six months has passed and you feel out of touch with God.
Here's a way of keeping yourself spiritually healthy.
Come join us for mid-week worship at 6:30 on Wednesdays. Starting May 16th.
Movie of the Month
This month we will feature the movie, “Grace Card”. This highly rated movie is a story about redemption and forgiveness. One of the central characters struggles with bitterness following the loss of a child. His fellow police officer, struggles with sharing his faith. Together they find God's love deeper and richer than ever imagined. Come join us in the gathering room at Bethany, on May 20th at 7:00 PM.
Survey Month
During the month of May, your pastor and church council will be asking for feedback on three simple questions.
What should we keep doing that we are doing?
What should we do that we are not doing?
What should we stop doing that we are doing?
They sound kind of corny, but they really help us to serve you better.
I remember a pastor who once said, “My congregation always expects me to preach for forty five minutes every Sunday. Do you know how hard it is to come us with a forty five minute sermon each week?” A week later I was visiting with some of his parishioners who said, “Our pastor always preaches for forty five minutes every Sunday. Do you know how hard it is to listen to a forty five minute sermon each week?” Talk about a lack of communication!
Please fill out the survey and pop it in the box by the doors to the sanctuary in the parish hall.
Thank you!
News from “Women of the Word”
Old habits die hard so if some of our "been here awhile folks" still slip and call it WELCA, please bear with us.
We do want to be "Women of the Word". As Jesus says in Matthew 25 starting with verse 31, we are reminded of some things our group, through Mission Growth, plan to be focusing on.
Eileen Largis and Harriet Wilson were faithful members for years in our WELCA organization. As they are now living at Hillcrest Nursing Home, occasionally some of us have visited them but as most of us agree good intentions far exceed actuality.
The "Word" has pricked our conscience to the point of coming up with a plan of action to visit them.
We have set up a schedule to help us be more faithful. Volunteers were asked to sign their names to be available to visit during a certain week.
So far, we have 12 names and 3 have already taken their week.
The Quilters have donated a quilt to each of them with a message sewn on the back and have been delivered.
We are inviting all women of Bethany to consider volunteering, whether you know them personally or not. Mentioning Bethany and a greeting with perhaps a prayer, song or scripture could be a suggestion if you feel comfortable. There is no specific way to do this. Your presence will be the most appreciated.
Call me if you care to be included in this ministry. Your name will be put on the list and the more names we get, the blessings will be shared with little effort. Marie Seeger 253-2708 or e mail mya@gvtel.com
Women's Spring Retreat
Ann Piersol will be our guest speaker sharing her insights into “Battling the Monster” (cancer) at Bethany on Friday, May 4th at 6:30pm. Refreshments will be served following the presentation.
A free will offering will be taken with the proceeds going to “Relay for Life”.
This event is sponsored by Bethany's “Women of the Word”. Everyone is welcome.
